Did You Know That Releasing Tension in Your Foot Can Help Relieve Tension Throughout Your Body?

Did you know that rolling a ball under your foot can help release tension throughout your entire body? As a pelvic floor physical therapist, I recommend this technique for people dealing with tightness, tension #, or pain. Here’s how it works and what to do if you don’t have a ball on hand.

🧠 Why It Works:

👉Foot reflex points: The feet contain pressure points that connect to various muscles and organs, meaning foot release can relax other parts of your body, including your pelvic floor.

👉Improves circulation: Rolling helps increase blood flow, bringing fresh oxygen to tight tissues.

👉Releases fascia: The ball stimulates your fascia (connective tissue), reducing tension and improving movement.

👉Reduces stress: Foot rolling can have a calming effect on your nervous system, helping with overall relaxation.

🎾 How to Do It:

1️⃣ Sit or stand comfortably.

2️⃣ Place a small ball (like a tennis or lacrosse ball) under one foot.

3️⃣ Gently press down and roll the ball back and forth, focusing on any tight or sore spots.

4️⃣ Spend 1-2 minutes on each foot.

🥥 No Ball? No Problem!

If you don’t have a ball, try these alternatives:

• A water bottle (filled or frozen for added relief)

• A rolling pin

• A smooth stone or golf ball

• A massage roller stick or flexbar

This quick and easy technique can relieve tension from your feet all the way to your pelvic floor, making it a great addition to your daily routine.
