Pelvic Health & Physical Therapy FAQs
We understand that pelvic health concerns can feel personal and sometimes overwhelming. This FAQ section answers the most common questions about pelvic floor therapy, pregnancy care, pain relief treatments, and what to expect during your healing journey at Pelvic Healing & Wellness.
FAQS
How long is each session?
Each appointment is 60 minutes and fully one-on-one, allowing time for a thorough evaluation, hands-on treatment when appropriate, patient education, and guided movement work. Every session is personalized to support your healing goals while ensuring comfort, privacy, and steady progress throughout your care journey and wellness.
Do you provide a superbill?
Yes. A detailed superbill is provided after each visit for you to submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many patients also choose to use HSA or FSA funds to help cover treatment costs, making pelvic health care more accessible and financially manageable over time for families.
What do sessions look like?
Sessions are one-on-one and tailored to your needs and goals. Treatment may include hands-on manual therapy, gentle stretching, soft tissue techniques, breathing strategies, education, posture and movement re-education, body mechanics, and strengthening when appropriate. You’ll also receive simple, realistic exercises and strategies to support progress between visits.
FAQS
Can i come during my period?
Yes. You are welcome to attend therapy during your period. If internal pelvic floor treatment is recommended, it is always your choice whether you feel comfortable proceeding. Many effective treatment options do not involve internal work, and your care plan will always be adjusted to respect your comfort, preferences, and healing needs.
Is internal pelvic floor work required?
No. Internal work is never required. Many symptoms improve through external techniques, breathing strategies, movement-based therapy, nervous system regulation, and patient education. All treatment is fully individualized and guided by your comfort level, ensuring care feels supportive, respectful, and aligned with your healing goals.
What do sessions look like?
Wear comfortable clothing; bringing shorts is helpful if possible. During your evaluation, I may assess posture, breathing, flexibility, and muscle function—including areas that influence pelvic floor health such as the abdomen, back, hips, inner thighs, hamstrings, and calves. Your comfort and consent always come first.
FAQS
Do you take insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, which allows me to offer longer, one-on-one sessions and truly individualized care. Without insurance restrictions, I can spend a full 60 minutes with you, select treatments that best meet your needs, and adjust care based on your goals—not visit caps—supporting more thoughtful, personalized healing and lasting results.
What do I wear to my appointment?
Yes. A detailed superbill is provided after each visit for you to submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many patients also choose to use HSA or FSA funds to help cover treatment costs, making pelvic health care more accessible and financially manageable over time for families.
Do I need to shave for my appointment?
No. There is absolutely no need to shave or groom in any specific way before your appointment. Pelvic floor physical therapy is medical care, and your comfort and dignity are always the priority—please come exactly as you are, knowing care is delivered respectfully, professionally, and without judgment.
FAQS
Do I need a referral?
No referral is required in Virginia to begin physical therapy services. You may schedule an appointment directly without a physician’s order. However, some insurance plans may request a referral for reimbursement purposes, and I’m always happy to help guide you through the process if documentation is needed.
Why did you become a pelvic floor physical therapist?
My work is shaped by both personal and professional experience. I understand what it feels like to navigate pelvic health challenges and to seek more compassionate, supportive care—especially during pregnancy and postpartum recovery. That perspective continues to guide how I care for and support each patient today.
Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
Yes. You’re always welcome to bring a partner, friend, or support person if it helps you feel more comfortable during your visit. Your care environment is meant to feel safe, respectful, and supportive, and having someone you trust present can be reassuring throughout your pelvic health therapy experience.
FAQS
Can I bring my baby or child to my appointment?
Yes. Babies and children are always welcome if needed. I understand that childcare is not always available, especially during pregnancy and postpartum recovery. We will do our best to keep your visit comfortable and supportive while still ensuring your care remains the primary focus.
Do you work with patients who have a history of trauma?
Yes. Care is trauma-informed, consent-based, and always guided at your pace. I understand how past medical experiences can affect comfort in clinical settings. The environment is calm and spa-like, with heated tables, ensuring you feel safe, supported, and fully in control throughout your care experience.
Do you treat men?
Yes. I work with men experiencing pelvic pain, bladder or bowel concerns, sexual dysfunction, prostatitis-related symptoms, and post-prostate surgery recovery. Care also supports issues affecting sitting, exercise, and daily function, with treatment tailored to comfort, privacy, and individualized healing goals.
