FAQ's
01
What is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized area of physical therapy that focuses on the evaluation and treatment of issues related to the pelvic floor and surrounding muscles and structures. A pelvic floor therapist will work closely with the patient to develop personalized treatment plans tailored to the patient’s specific needs and goals.
02
What is the first pelvic PT session like?
The first step is a consultation with a physical therapist. You can expect a private, one-on-one setting in which the therapist reviews your medical history, symptoms and goals and performs a physical exam.

After the consultation, the physical therapist discusses their findings and will work with you to create an individualized plan to address your pelvic health needs and goals.
03
Do I need a referral to see a pelvic physical therapist?
In Virginia, you do not need a referral for Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy through the direct access law. This is true in most states. If you are trying to submit your claims to insurance for reimbursement, it’s recommended to call your insurance company to verify their requirements.
04
Do you accept insurance or Medicare?
Pelvic Healing and Wellness Physical Therapy does not contract with insurance companies nor Medicare. I have chosen to be an out of network provider so that I can provide one-on-one time care and be able to deliver the personalized attention and comprehensive care that you deserve.
05
Do you provide superbills?
Yes, I do provide superbills to submit to your insurance company. I encourage you to speak with your insurance company about reimbursement as each insurance company is different.
06
How long does a session typically last?
Each session is an hour long.
07
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required depends on your condition and treatment goals. Your therapist will provide you with an estimated treatment plan, which may be adjusted as you progress.
08
How do I prepare for a Pelvic PT session?
1. Gather any relevant medical records, test results, history of your menstrual cycle or reports related to your pelvic health issue.
2. Dress Comfortably
3. Prepare Questions

4. Empty Your Bladder: Depending on your specific issue, you may be asked to empty your bladder before the session.
6. Arrive Early: Arrive at the clinic a little early to complete any necessary paperwork and to allow time for check-in.
7. Consent: Be prepared to discuss your medical history and consent to the examination and treatment plan.
8. Bring support: If you feel more comfortable bringing a loved one, spouse, friend or parent, you are certainly welcome too! They are welcome to wait in the lobby or come into the room. Your comfort is important to us and we want you to feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible!
